Media Release: Cigna Signs On With Wellington Round The Bays Till 2018
Sport Wellington has renewed its major partnership of its award-winning event, Wellington Round the Bays. Leading insurance provider Cigna has signed on as principal sponsor and naming rights holder for the upcoming Wellington Round the Bays events for another two years until 2018, which will include next year’s 40th anniversary of the fun run.
Sport Wellington delivers the event each year as part of their vision for everyone in the Wellington region to have a lifelong involvement in sport and active recreation. Wellington-based Cigna has a strong affinity with the communities in which Round the Bays operates, and the partnership fits well with the company’s focus on health and wellbeing.
“After becoming the principal sponsor in 2014 and experiencing first-hand what a great event this is for Wellington, it was an easy decision to renew our partnership with Sport Wellington and to continue helping bring this event to the community” says Cigna CEO, Lance Walker. “Round the Bays continues to be Cigna’s biggest sponsorship. The event sits well with our commitment to empower Kiwis to live well and stay well.”
Lance also sees the event as an opportunity to raise awareness of Achilles NZ, the event’s official charity. “Achilles supports disabled athletes to participate in events like Cigna Round the Bays. I’ve guided an Achilles athlete around the event before and it added a whole new element to the experience,” says Lance. “The athletes are an inspiring group and I encourage Wellingtonians to get behind them.”
Sport Wellington CEO Phil Gibbons says that “the sponsorship arrangement with Cigna is thriving because of their commitment to making a difference in our community. We (Sport Wellington and Cigna) are both unwavering in wanting to provide the best experience we can for all 14,000 participants and the 300 volunteers who help us deliver the event.”
Sport Wellington have organised the iconic event since 1999 and the continued growth in participation has seen Cigna Round the Bays become one of New Zealand’s largest community sporting events.
