Cigna New Zealand has announced the appointment of Mary-Jane Daly to its New Zealand Board as an Independent Director.

Ms Daly brings a wealth of industry experience having held numerous directorships and senior leadership roles across the insurance and finance sectors.

“Mary-Jane has proven her ability to manage diverse and complex governance roles. She brings strong professional experience, as well as outstanding personal values to the organisation,” Cigna Chairman Steven Fyfe says.

Ms Daly is pleased to bring her experience and understanding of the insurance industry to Cigna.

“Insurance is about supporting people when they need it most,” she says

“New Zealanders want affordable, relevant products and services that will help them through difficult times. They want to feel confident that their insurance company is there to support them and those they love. It’s as simple and as easy as that.”

When it comes to what’s important to her in business, Ms Daly says authenticity is central.

“It’s important to have your values aligned with all aspects of a business in order to achieve the best outcome.

“When you lose someone close to you there is a lot of change and some big challenges to face. Life insurance can provide financial security and therefore remove a significant stress point.

“My work with EQC has meant that I’ve been able to be involved in making a difference to the lives of people in Canterbury. It was a challenging job but the opportunity to be part of the rebuild is one I’ll always feel grateful to have been a part of.”

Looking ahead, Ms Daly says she sees real opportunity to grow Cigna Insurance by creating products that provide support to people and their lives in their time of need.

Mr Fyfe says the appointment of Ms Daly will bring many benefits to the company and increase the strength of its Board.

“Ms Daly brings great experience to the Board through both her previous roles in the insurance industry and her directorships. She has an impressive track record that will greatly benefit our organisation. I’m confident her insights will enrich the Board and ensure Cigna is delivering what its customers want.”

Ms Daly is currently an Independent Director at Kiwi Property Group, Deputy Chair of Airways Corporation, and Chair of the New Zealand Green Building Council. She is Deputy Chair of EQC. Previously, Ms Daly served as Executive General Manager, and Chief Financial Officer at IAG New Zealand. Before joining IAG, she spent four years with Fonterra as Group Treasurer and Risk Manager. She has also held positions at the Bank of New Zealand, National Australia Bank and Toronto-Dominion Bank in London
