On Friday 1 July, Chubb completed the acquisition of Cigna’s life insurance business in New Zealand.

Chubb is the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company, providing a range of products including life, property and casualty, accident and health insurance to customers worldwide.

SALE OF CIGNA

What is the change?

Cigna Corporation has sold Cigna Life Insurance New Zealand Limited (Cigna), its New Zealand life insurance business, to the Chubb Group. This means Cigna’s life insurance business in New Zealand is now part of the Chubb Group.

Who is Chubb?

Chubb is the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company. Chubb provides a range of products including life, property and casualty, accident and health insurance to customers worldwide. Chubb Insurance New Zealand Limited has been operating in New Zealand for 44 years.

We are committed to providing a broad range of products and solutions backed by their substantial financial strength and security. Chubb has a financial rating of AA rating from Standard & Poor’s and A++ from A.M. Best.

When did the change happen?

The sale of Cigna to Chubb happened on 1 July 2022.

What does this mean for me?

This change will have no impact to your existing policy, coverage or premiums. You will continue to be supported by the same great team of people who are committed to offering support and service of the very highest quality. Should you need to do anything differently, we will be in touch to advise you of this.

Why are you telling me now?

In 2021, Chubb agreed to buy Cigna’s life insurance business in New Zealand. On 1 July 2022, Chubb completed the acquisition of Cigna’s life insurance business in New Zealand.

Is Cigna’s company name changing?

We will be changing our company name from Cigna to Chubb. This is not effective immediately but will happen in the coming months. You might see an announcement about this in your local newspaper when this happens. This change will have no impact on your existing policy, coverage or premiums

Is Cigna’s logo changing?

As the integration proceeds, you will notice that the Cigna logo, colour, email addresses, forms and our website will change from Cigna to Chubb. These changes will not impact your existing policy or the service we provide to you, however, should you need to do anything differently, we will be in touch to advise you of this.

YOUR POLICY

Will the terms and conditions of my policy be affected by the sale?

There is no change to your existing policy, coverage or premiums. All Cigna policies stay the same without any changes to the current terms and conditions.

Do I need to change the details of my premium payments?

No. The sale does not affect premiums or your payment details for existing policies and should continue to be paid as they are now. You will see the company name change from Cigna to Chubb on your bank statement in the coming months.

Does a change in ownership affect my Adviser relationship?

No. If you have an Adviser, they will continue to be your point of contact for expert advice or information about your cover.

Does a change in ownership affect my Cigna relationship?

No. Our team will not change and our service to you will not be interrupted. You will still deal with the same team after the change. So, you can call or email us on the same details you do today.

WHAT ABOUT CLAIMS?

I have a claim in progress, what should I do?

The sale will not affect your claim in any way. You can continue to talk to your claims consultant who will still be there to support you through your claim. Our contact details have not changed.

What do I do if I have to submit a claim?

Making a claim often comes at a challenging time. Please submit any claims through the usual channels. Our contact numbers have not changed. If you need to make a claim, please talk to your Adviser if you have one, or visit cigna.co.nz/claims for information on how to make a claim.

Do I need to do anything?

No. You do not need to do anything. You will continue to receive the same superior claims and customer service experience that you have come to expect from us. This is simply a change to the ownership of your insurer.
