France railway strikes

France railway strikes

11 April 2018

French railway workers have begun three months of rolling strikes during union negotiations. Strikes have been called for two days out of every five until the end of June. This is expected to cause considerable disruptions to travel in France and some international lines.

If you have plans to travel by rail in France, we recommend you watch the event closely and visit the French Railway website for regular updates and information about which days strikes are planned for: https://en.oui.sncf/en/train/strike

If you need emergency assistance while you’re overseas call First Assistance on +64 9 347 1115. They’re available to help you anytime, 24/7.

As the strikes were announced on 15 March (NZST), these are considered a known event.

  • If you booked travel before 15 March that is affected by the strikes there is provision to claim.
  • If you booked travel after 15 March that is affected by the strikes there is no provision to claim.

If a planned strike is re-scheduled to a non-strike day, causing disruption and you booked before the reschedule then there is provision to claim.
